Jose Deanon

Musician of All-Sorts

Jose is a Choir Director, Pianist, and Cantor at St. Edward Catholic Church, in Newark, California. He is trained in Classical piano repertoire including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, and John Williams. Jose is also well-versed in Roman Catholic Liturgical Sacred Music literature & Filipino Bukas Palad Choral literature. He has experience reading Gregorian Chant and contemporary music from the Vatican II Missal. He has strong experience with Musescore in composing and arranging for Choir and Piano. Jose is also very skilled in classical-jazz solo improvisation and has a hobby of making piano covers of mainstream music.

He graduated December of 2019 from San Jose State University’s School of Music & Dance with a Bachelor’s of Music - Piano Performance. He formally studied under Dr. Frank Levy for applied lessons; under direction of the department head, Dr. Gwendolyn Mok. From ear-training, collegiate music theory, and other music courses, Jose learned a variety of skills from highly technical professors and continues to apply their traditions in his current professions. Jose was also a part of the SJSU Choirs led by Dr. Jeffrey Benson during his time there. He performed his Junior Piano Recital in Spring of 2018, and his Senior Piano Recital in Spring of 2019.

Upon graduation, Jose was recruited by Ragazzi Boys Chorus, originally as an accompanist for their RP Ensemble. In March of 2019, music organizations experienced a severe hit, as a transition to a shelter-in-place environment forced in-person work to the online world. His duties switched from an accompanist to a Zoom Traffic Controller(or a Zoom meeting facilitator) to help Ragazzi directors run their rehearsals.

In the turn of 2020-2021, Jose was recruited by JackTrip Labs through his online experience with Ragazzi Boys Chorus. Utilizing Zoom, Google Meets, OBS, and other video-audio recording technology, Jose explored these tools to help create and maintain low-latency online choir rehearsals for Ragazzi using JackTrip Labs’ cutting edge technology.

Jose also worked and witnessed Eric Whitacre’s Sing Gently JackTrip project in May of 2021, as a collaboration between Ragazzi Boys Chorus, San Francisco Girls Chorus, & Southern California Children’s Chorus in the background logistics of their rehearsals leading to their LIVE performance in July of 2021 - all while utilizing JackTrip’s Technology. He also received formal certification from NowNet Arts hosted by Sarah Weaver and Synthia Payne.

Jose is a team-player, interested in exploring new research, and likes to compose whenever he has free time.
